You can phone the call centre, contact your Tribal Council or speak with your school or healthcare provider.
Call Centre
You can call the 24-hour call centre 7 days a week to make a claim or ask questions about the program (1.855.JP.CHILD or 1.855.572.4453). The call centre will connect you to someone in your area who can help you to submit your claim. It is important to let the call centre know if your request is urgent. Urgent requests might include situations where there is a risk to physical safety, no access to food or basic necessities, a risk of entering the child welfare system or situations involving domestic violence.
If you think you are in an urgent situation you probably are and it's important to let the call centre know that so that they can deal with your request right away.
When you make your request, you'll be asked to provide certain information or documentation. It's important to know that, in urgent cases, you don't need to provide documentation right away and verbal or written consent from a parent or guardian should be enough to make the request. In other cases, you will be asked to provide information showing the child is eligible as well as a referral from a professional or Elder or Knowledge Keeper.
If you are making a request for an individual child, you should get a decision within 12 hours for an urgent request or 48 hours for a non-urgent request.
If you are making a group request, you should have a decision within 48 hours for an urgent request or 1 week for a non-urgent request.
If your request is denied, you have one year to appeal the decision.
You can get information and assistance with funding requests through your Tribal Council. Many Tribal Councils have dedicated Jordan's Principle coordinators who work with members on funding requests and provide general help.
Schools and healthcare providers can help with information and applications in their specific areas.
