Police can only enter in limited circumstances.
Police can only enter a residence (home) if they are invited in or in other specific circumstances including:
- with a warrant
- if they are chasing someone to arrest them and they see the person enter your home
- to protect people or evidence
- to answer a 9-1-1 call
If police enter your home without permission and you do not think they have a legal reason to, tell them you do not consent and get their names and badge numbers.
