Ombudsman

If you think you have been treated unfairly by the provincial government or a provincial government agency you can file a complaint with the Ombudsman.

The Ombudsman will consider things like:

  • what information was considered in making a decision
  • whether you were able to tell your side of the story
  • how you were treated

If they find that you have been treated unfairly, they can make recommendations to the government about how to correct the situation.

When might it be different?

The provincial Ombudsman can only deal with complaints about the provincial government or one of its agencies. There is no overall Ombudsman for the federal government and its agencies. But there are independent bodies that can investigate complaints about some federal government agencies. The Federal Ombudsperson for Victims of Crime and Office of the Taxpayers’ Ombudsperson are two examples.
